Delete Your Account & Data
If you would like to delete your Whim account and all associated personal data, you can do so at any time using the methods below.
Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once the deletion process begins, Whim support cannot recover your profile, messages, or account data. Please note that simply uninstalling the Whim app from your device does not delete your account.
How to Delete Your Account
1. In the App (Fastest)
Go to Settings > Delete Account and follow the on-screen prompts. Your account will be deactivated immediately and the data deletion process will begin.
2. By Email
Send a deletion request to legal@letswhim.com using the email address associated with your Whim account. Please use the subject line "Account Deletion Request." For security purposes, we may need to verify your identity before processing the request.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Profile information (name, email, phone number, profile photo)
- All messages and chat history
- Venue photos you uploaded
- Ratings, reviews, and interactions
- Contact hashes (used for friend matching)
- Device tokens and notification preferences
- All Instagram-derived data (if you used the Instagram import feature)
- All other associated account data
What Happens to Active Group Plans?
If you are the host of an upcoming Whim, your personal profile and data will be removed from the event. To ensure your friends' plans are not disrupted, the Whim itself may remain active and leadership will be automatically transferred to another participant.
Timeline
- Active systems: Your account is deactivated immediately. Your data will be permanently deleted from our active systems within 30 days of a verified request.
- Backups: We may retain certain data in securely encrypted, inaccessible backups for up to 90 days, after which it is permanently destroyed.
- Legal compliance: We may retain limited data beyond these timeframes only if strictly required by law or to resolve legal disputes.
